🚫high ceilings
🚫echo-ey room
🚫in front of a window, near busy traffic

Live in an echo-y place?

💡placing a filled bookshelf in front of you while you record can help soak up some of the echoes in the room

💡closets filled to the brim with clothes and shoes can make a great impromptu vocal booth

🫂 but I’ve got magical plug-ins, so just do your best!

Set-Up:

Don't have a microphone? Use your phone! Open up your voice recording app, press record, and place your phone or mic 3-6 inches away from your cheek. See Diagram Below.

IF YOU HAVE A BLUE YETI PLEASE ALSO RECORD ON YOUR PHONE!
(some of the older versions are total poo)

Set-Up TEST:

Try this as your practice test and then listen back to adjust your set up. You’ll know if something sounds off. It’s also great for nerves :]

Big purple parrots bring tiny blue backpacks packed perfectly, though terribly bulky. They tiptoe past towering banana trees, and dive dramatically. Peculiar place to watch a parrot bake buttery pastries, but the ducks do debate proper puff thickness. ‘Positively perfect!’ proclaims the particularly picky panel of paddling pastry professionals, though Bob, the brashest bird, bellows, ‘Preposterously poofy!

and listen back! If your T’s, P’s, and B’s sound too ‘poppy’ or harsh, maybe push it back a little farther, or turn it so it’s facing your cheek, just not aimed directly at your mouth.

Okay, this one was really just for your nerves, if you have any!
But please double check to make sure you’re sounding good on your audio. No fans? No crazy echoes? No water pipes? No doors slamming? No jewelry? Okay we’re good!

Final advice: Don't worry about sounding any type of way, don't worry if you’re tripping over words, just start the sentence over, or don't, we'll make it work! We’re going to edit you down into the most podcast-ready sounding version of yourself. If you feel really nervous, you can practice going through the questions, or just tell us how your day was until you feel comfortable. We highly encourage the authenticity of the moment, if you mess up, just laugh at yourself and keep going. If you feel like you need to catch a breath, catch a breath, and if you need to pause and think, take as long a pause as you need, we’ll cut all of that out! ✂
Okay, HAVE FUUUUN!

PS all of these questions might feel repetitive, we just want to make sure we get everything.
